Qualified Instructors

Our chief instructors,

Sensei Jean-Sébastien Rodrigue and Sensei Nancy Claire Duchaine,

are both experienced instructors and NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program) Instructor Beginner Certified and Competition Introduction Certified Karate Coaches.

Jean (NCCP #795265) is a 4th degree black belt who did most of his 20+ years of karate training in Nanaimo and Victoria.

Nancy (NCCP #925222) is a 2nd degree black belt and is a teacher from the Lower Mainland. Nancy has been teaching karate since 1997.

Karate is taught in a training hall called a ‘dojo’. A dojo can take many physical forms from a gym to a backyard. It is not the physical shape or size of the dojo that is important, but rather the attitude and spirit of the student toward the place of learning. The dojo is not merely a place to train; it is also a place where we strive for personal excellence, both physically and mentally.

Our Philosophy

Thompson-Nicola Shotokan Karate Association is a non-profit organization where all the proceeds of membership go back into the organization to provide regular Shotokan karate lessons including self-defense classes, seminars, tournaments and exposure to world-class karate and instructors. We are proud to be one of the family karate clubs within Gendai Karate No Michi Canada.
